July 13, 2011
The world’s largest iPhone video review site to bolster SM’s mobile gaming coverage
PRESS RELEASE | For Immediate Release
London, UK – 13th July 2011 – Steel Media is proud to announce its acquisition of AppSpy.com, in a move that further strengthens the publisher’s dedication to providing unrivalled portable gaming coverage online.
Created by industry professionals in September 2009 with the aim of becoming the best iPhone video review site for gamers, AppSpy is the largest provider of YouTube video reviews for iPhone/iPod touch games on the web, with the highest movie review count of any website – currently over 1,400 and rising.
In addition to providing professional reviews in a fresh quickfire format esteemed by a loyal and firmly established audience, AppSpy.com operates a fully custom developed app price-tracking and alert system for its users – so once logged in, members can track apps of their choice and be notified when the cost of that app drops to their desired price point.
“After working for AppSpy for almost two years now, I’ve come to consider the site as almost a personal project – a labor of love,” said AppSpy editor Andrew Nesvadba. “Joining Steel Media has a been a big step forward for AppSpy as it now shares in the wealth of skill, knowledge and passion that has made sites like Pocket Gamer so successful.
“I genuinely believe that our compact video reviews provide a much needed service for App Store consumers and now we have the opportunity to expand beyond these horizons to become a premier venue for iOS and even Android app related coverage.”
“I’m very excited about Steel Media’s acquisition of the video-based reviews site AppSpy.com. This is exactly the sort of move that will see us increase the momentum behind the great success we’ve enjoyed in the mobile gaming and apps space to date,” added Chris James, Steel Media’s MD.
“In Andrew we have a knowledgeable, determined industry professional whose passion and dedication is evident in the work he produces. By combining the site’s existing content and approach with Steel Media’s network and resources we look forward to evolving AppSpy.com over the coming months with a view to adding new features and introducing it to the widest audience of smartphone users.”
